The small leachate flow from the Gateshead Borough City Council -United Kingdom municipal industrial waste landfill was running into the Tyne River. The leachate was contaminated with arsenic, mixed heavy metals, and dissolved salts.

By integrating EXXFLOW microfiltration the system removes the arsenic and significant percentage of the metals. One third of the filtrate is treated by reverse osmosis to remove the dissolved salts before the recombined water is discharged to the river. The reverse osmosis reject flow is returned to the EXXFLOW plant for re-treatment.

The pretreatment is pH correction, the addition of 200 mg/1 of FeC13 and 1 mg/1 Na2S at a pH of 9.0.

The washing of glazing machine spindles produces wastewater that contains approximately 20 oz/pint (1200 g/l) of valuable glaze. Exxflow microfiltration separate, thicken and reuse glaze without affecting the quality. The glaze is recovered as a 30oz/pint (1800 g/l) slurry.

Companies manufacturing metal components such as window frames, industrial shelving and racking and shopping carts, create wastewaters containing heavy metals.

EXXFLOW microfiltration efficiently precipitates concentrates and removes metals from the wastewaters.
